These short escapes are three day Heli-Hiking trips at the Bobbie Burns and Bugaboo Lodges in the Columbia Mountains of BC. These are Signature Heli-Hiking holidays and the most popular summer offering. Three days of Heli-Hiking allow you to taste the wonders of mountain wilderness. The helicopter allows us to explore a variety of sights in a short time. You will be shown ancient glaciers, alpine meadows, mountain ridge walks and lush forested valleys - on any other hiking or walking trip you'd see only one type of mountain terrain.

These 3 day adventures are suitable for all guests; Families, Couples, Friends, Solo Travellers, Mountaineers, Hikers, Trekkers, Walkers, Amblers and Private Groups.

A 3-day Heli-Adventure begins with transportation from Banff, Alberta to the helipad followed by an exhilarating flight into the lodge. Two and a half days of guided hiking, walking and/or trekking follows with guests divided into groups based on ability and interest. Gourmet cuisine, luxury lodges and a relaxed, casual atmosphere sums up this Heli-Hiking package.

With the best of two different mountain ranges at the heli-hiking guides’ fingertips, a Lodge-to-Lodge trip is nothing short of spectacular. You spend half your time heli-hiking amidst the vast wilderness of one area before hiking, walking and flying to a second area, where your adventure continues.

Lodge-to-Lodge trips include six nights – three at the Bobbie Burns lodge and three nights at the Bugaboo Lodge. On day four, you hike along the famed Grizzly Ridge until meeting up with the helicopter for the flight to your next lodge.

This European style experience between the Bobbie Burns and the Bugaboo has been operated for several years, and it is one of the favourites among returning guests.

Lodge-to-Lodge is also available as a Family Adventure Heli-Hiking Package.

Bobbie Burns Lodge

The Bobbie Burns range takes its name from a great Scottish poet. Very few people other than Heli-Hikers have ever set foot on these remote mountains, some of which remain unnamed today.

For adrenalin-seekers, Bobbie Burns is home to the famed Adventure Trail, featuring:

• Zip-lines over raging rivers
• A spectacular high ropes course
• Rappelling opportunities
• The new Via Ferrata – an alpine route equipped with fixed cables, ladders, and bridges

Bobbie Burns accommodates 44 Heli-Hikers in 24 rooms, all with private bath. The lodge has an outdoor whirlpool, sauna, games room, porch-side basketball hoops, shop, and a fireplace in its roomy common area. Its extensive wine cellar is certainly one of the world’s best in a wilderness lodge.

Bugaboo Lodge

The Bugaboos got their name from a turn-of-the-20th-century gold hoax. The name alone is in part responsible for their iconic stature in the mountain world, though the credibility of this reputation cannot be doubted when one considers the stream of legendary climbers who, during the 1950s – 70s, sought first-ascents on many of these peaks. There is probably no comparably magnificent range with so few visitors in the whole of North America, if not the world.

Bugaboo Lodge sits about 1,600 metres (nearly a mile) high, with 35 rooms with private baths, a wood and stone bar-lounge, spa area with sauna, steam room, a games room, a handy shop, and a rooftop hot tub with an extraordinary view. Unique to the Bugaboos, the area manager has compiled a small interpretive museum of maps, pictures, natural history exhibits, and assorted fascinating Bugaboos memorabilia.
